| My Fingers Are So Smart, They Measure! Posted: 13 Sep 2010 01:42 AM PDT Go back into the history of measurements and we know that in the ancient times, body parts used to be the standard for measurements; hence 'a foot'. The need for uniformity paved way for the metric and imperial systems that are now commonly used. However our basic instincts still make us want to use 'a span', 'two finger spaces' or 'an arm's length'; old habits die hard I guess! To resolve this and bridge the gap between digital accuracy and human approximations is the Smart Finger. It is a device that caps your thumb and forefinger (or any 2 fingers) and uses the signals relayed between the two finger points to calculate the measurement.

| Posted: 13 Sep 2010 01:10 AM PDT Teaching children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is usually done on a one-on-one basis. So in a class of handful students, when the teacher is busy with one student, the rest are usually occupied in lesser engaging and stimulating activities in the off-task area. Rock On is a special rocking chair meant for the students who are not being taught, for the moment, by the teacher and are waiting for their turn. This fun rocker sports different activity boards to keep these students calm and engaged. This is done by satisfying their need for other kinds of sensory stimulations, on top of vestibular stimulations. Rock On is a passive way of keeping the children active and intrigued. | Posted: 13 Sep 2010 01:00 AM PDT The Kit – Cub Kitchen is a very well thought-out plan and covers almost all the basic requirements of a kitchen space. It adopts the cubicle form and houses a fridge, microwave, sink, cutting table, modular storage cabinets, garbage bin and an electrical cooking top. What's unique about the cabinets is that just below the sink are 2 dedicated as water tanks, one that feeds the sink and the other to collect the gray water. Now if we are careful in using green products for cleaning the dishes, I'm sure the water can be recycled to good use. Tedious labor but very rewarding! What makes this modular kitchen effective is the choice of materials in its construction: aluminum and wood. Durable and easy to maintain, the two cubes can either be placed as a traditional straight seamless counter, or given an elective bend. Whatever suits your home! Designer: Paul Mauduit ---------- |
| Posted: 13 Sep 2010 12:10 AM PDT It has hands of darkness some times, and hands of light at others. It doesn’t always illuminate the time, but it’ll never leave you in the dark. What is it? Equinox! The clock that’ll illuminate the way you view your hours, minutes, and seconds. Designer Bram Knaapen presents hours as three colored blocks, minutes as a single colored block, and seconds as a fading row of blocks, all of them sliding round and round the Equinox circle. You may remember Knaapen from his Remote Context Communicator project posted on Yanko a while ago. Ever since the RCC was posted, Knaapen’s been devising this fabulous new object of light for the world! Sixty RGB LED lights equipped around the circle of this clock allow a giant variety of colors, the version of software installed in this first iteration cycling through the rainbow twice a day. Intensity lessened in the deep dark. Watch the neat video! Designer: Bram Knaapen ---------- |
| Encouragement Plug for Environmentalism Posted: 13 Sep 2010 12:03 AM PDT This is a plug for the world to become more environmentally friendly. It’s a plug you’d plug into the wall to access power, but not just that! No way, that’s too simple. This one lights up in a way that shows you the way, the truth, and the light! This “Insic Wall Socket” encourages you to use power only so long as you need it. This isn’t just a dormant tool, nay, this one’s encouraging you to be the green crusader you’ve always aspired to be. No plug, no light. Plug with no working instrument – ability to check the standby energy. Energy with a working instrument – energy display and encouragement to use the minimum. Lovely! | Posted: 13 Sep 2010 12:03 AM PDT The following car aims to do the following things, all at once: provide a new luxury experience and a new way of driving. Be a family car OR a personal car at any given time. Be a smart solution for the everyday tasks of the owner. Be a space for relaxation – a part of people’s living space. This is the “Volkswagen Inside.” A new luxury concept for Volkswagen, by designer Mate Bartha. A transformable luxury electric car, customizable for 4 person, 2 person, or 1 person use in seconds. The top of the car is a large glass surface, sort of like an extension of what we know now as the sunroof. Relaxing is what is it. Smooth, dynamic lines fill the Inside, four electric wheel engines roll it along. These electric wheel engines are based on Michelins Active Wheel System, using Nanowire Lithium-Ion batteries. Instead of just a steering wheel, all the controls to the car are attached to the driver seat, working on a drive by wire system. The car can transform from a normal, everyday 4 seat car to a 1 seater, with the driver sitting in the center of the vehicle. Comfortable and simplified. Designer: Mate Bartha ---------- |
