Mince No Lights

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 04:02 AM PDT

Mince words, mince meat, mince some attitude; but will you mince lights? A very artistic interpretation of some wasted wires n plugs, a mince machine and a bulb! Light Mincer Lamp! Made entirely of recycled and disposed materials, the lamp is ready to adorn your table, just send out a holler to Reima.

Yipee! It’s a Hubless Skateboard!

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 03:50 AM PDT

Calling all ye skateboard enthusiasts to check out this lovely FreeRider SkateCycle (love the complex name!), a self propelled hubless skate that allows you to rule the flat ground and any skate park! The features include 9-inch polyurethane hubless wheels, weighs 7.3 lbs, easy folding system, solid aluminum frame, durable composite body parts, and two slip-resistant footboards. The wheels are connected via a double-jointed, twisting axle, which allows the rider to twist their body and move their feet inwards and outwards, to propel the board forwards.

Just because you loved this so much, the skateboard can be actually bought for $149.95. That's right….it's not a concept, but the real thing!

Timed Organizer In A Book

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 03:18 AM PDT

In the day and age where electronic gadgets double up as reminders of tasks and appointments, I applaud Wonjune Song's bold move to go back to the basics of pen and paper and of course the trusty old watch. Watch Diary is basically a book with a clock set in the middle of the page. The "red hand" indicates the current task, the "before hand" indicates past chores and the "forward hand" indicates the upcoming ones. A simple glance at the page and you'll know if you've kept up your schedule or are lagging. If you can key in the text to your gadget, you may as well pen it down in this diary. My only suggestion would be to include an alarm system that can be used as a reminder.

On second thoughts, maybe its perfect just this ways…back to the gadget-free days!

NYC’s New Taxi Topper

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 12:12 AM PDT

Bluemap Design in collaboration with Show Media, Inc. and Distec GMbH present a brand new billboard box for the tops of New York City taxi cabs, that never-ending sea of yellow, black, and white on wheels. For many years there’s been a triangular plastic box up there and heck, it’s time for a change. This new box is sleek, simple, metal, LED lit, recyclable, makes the ad easier to view and read, and will be fitted to cabs across the city starting as soon as the end of September 2010.

The images on these billboard boxes are clearer and much better lit than they were on the plastic bloated and aged toppers the cabs have at the moment. There’s a super clear, legible availability status and medalion number on the front and back of the box, and the entire device is simple to install on all manner of connectors already on current cabs.

The box is bright with new generation LED backlighting providing low energy consumption and working in tangent with effective digital graphic reproduction processes. “Harmonized Design/Engineering allows all generated light to be concentrated exclusively on advertising and functional communications.” That means it’s not just a black blocker with letters blasting through with light – the entire image is lit like it always should have been, illuminating the message in a precise, nice, glowing manner.

The frame is made of strong aluminum ready for the harshest of weather conditions which it WILL see because I don’t know if you’ve been to NYC, but it gets both hella cold AND hella hot.

Finally, maybe best of all, and almost just for fun at this point since this board is more than amazing already, the amount of EMI emissions from the board are lower than ever before. What’s that mean? There’s less radio interference, and your iPhone works better. Wild.

Shaped Alumi-table

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 12:10 AM PDT

All the way from Italy comes designer Alex Sacchetti with a table. Not just any table, nay, this is a table made of glass and shaped aluminum. Shaped in a unique sort of shape and made to appear at home in any number of aesthetically diverse locations. The transparent glass, both elegant and universally beautiful, is 12mm thick, supported in full by the major structure made out of pure aluminum. Put your monograms on there, your artist books and hardcover magazines.

This table goes by the name “Edgewire” and is not for putting your feet up on. So probably don’t put this in the room where your children run around and crash their heads into the edges of tables. DO put it in your fine local lobby or young adult/non-baby household living room.

Natures Spheres

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 12:03 AM PDT

Note design studio presents a set of spherical lamps on top of wooden bases, each of them inspired by the tiny organisms that spring from the forest floor like tiny candles. Yes, Note, walking around in the forest looking for inspiration, finding hidden in the green moss small families of fungi. In response, these loving lamps. Each lamp is designed for low energy lights made to keep our natural inspiration safe as long as possible, moss and fungi and all.

The two larger of this “Duesphere Family” have hand-blown glass spheres that diffuse light, the smallest of the lamps is based on a “low energy globe” made to be the same size as the turned wood base. Set these up throughout your house to attract fairies and butterfly ghosts and gnomes and elves that make cookies and all manner of wonderful myth.
