| Posted: 12 May 2011 08:59 AM PDT Look at your keyboard. Now look at the Engrain. See a difference? The Engrain Tactile Keyboard by Michael Roopenian (say his last name repeatedly please) “uses nature’s tactility to strengthen the relationship between user and interface.” His words, not mine but I I agree. It certainly looks “touchy feely.,” just begging for my fingers to glide across its undulating surface. Whoa whoa! This post is getting dirty. Tell me, what do you guys think of it? | Posted: 12 May 2011 08:54 AM PDT Two, three? Four is like pushing it too much; I can picture you spilling that hot beverage! The Smart Holder is exactly what we need. The sleeve has an interlocking system that allows you to hook up multiple cups of beverages together. A well thought-out idea that I hope works as well in practice. | Posted: 12 May 2011 08:53 AM PDT Dear Alan, Apple will love you for your Gaming Pod concept and gamers like me who can't live without the iPhone for this very reason, will worship you. I hope you can refine it enough to make it a CKIE project. It looks fit enough to protect the device and work in sync with it. I look forward to enhancing my racing-game experience using this sexy contraption. Loads of love, YD. Designer: Alan Li ---------- |
| Posted: 12 May 2011 08:52 AM PDT You should know, we love wood bikes. The Giuliano city bike is made of sandwiched teak wood. It pays homage to nature while maintaining some serious “bikey” gears. There are parts of the prototype I think should be refined, like the exposed bevels but other than that, I think this bike is ready. Designer: Raffaello Ape ---------- |
| Posted: 12 May 2011 12:02 AM PDT Feeling like today’s electric vehicles aren’t maximizing their full potential, Gunwoong Kim & Suji Kim’s submission for the 2011 Michelin Challenge Design Showcase, the Vieria, aims to expand upon the development of electric and other eco-friendly vehicle designs by incorporating it’s own advanced air purification system to rid the environment of carcinogens and other pollutants. The open-air intake at the front of the vehicle “inhales” smog and “exhales” clean air through the filtered outtake. On the straightaway, the insect like form maximizes aerodynamic efficiency by pulling in it’s 4 independent legs; for better stabilization the legs pivot out for serious road hugging. | Posted: 12 May 2011 12:01 AM PDT These two lighting designs, Big by Lievore, Altherr and Molina and Link by Ramon Esteve, were featured at the 2011 Salone del Mobile in Milan by RED Association of Spanish Design Companies member Vibia. The Link light allows components of 4 varying shapes to be linked together to share an electrical charge. The result is a customizable modular lighting system that provides pleasant ambiance as well as geometric volume. Alternatively, the Big light is soft, round, and well… big! At 120cm in diameter, the circular light looks more like a skylight or escape hatch leading to a whole new world, yet it’s modern aesthetic is unimposing enough to blend nicely into traditional settings. | Posted: 12 May 2011 12:01 AM PDT The Nautilus shelving system, showcased at Northern Michigan University’s first ever exhibit at the Salone Satellite, was designed to be a cherished family heirloom that, like markings of a child’s height on the wall, represents the advancement of personal knowledge as well as the coming of age. Inspired by the need for growth through learning, the ascending shelves symbolize the lifelong pursuit of discovery. Placed in line, the shelves act as a playful room divider, but when closed Nautilus becomes an adapted reading sanctuary. Designer: Alicia Bastian ---------- |
