| Posted: 22 Jun 2011 08:45 AM PDT Seoul is ranked the thirteenth largest economy in the world. The massive growth has created a metropolis with all too familiar problems – pollution. The Aiolos concept proposes a new system where buildings outfitted with wind generators pump power into a grid to charge these funky little cars. The cars have builtl-in propellers that capture wind energy. The faster you go, the more energy you generate. Talk about sub-compact! ---------- |
| Posted: 22 Jun 2011 08:38 AM PDT DEX is a compact, minimalist desk that fits anywhere in the home. The frame consists of two horizontal cross shapes of solid wooden laths and a drawer unit. The frame has a minimal presence around the seat for optimal comfort. The drawer unit has two or three drawers. They can be pulled out entirely to provide a place for a printer. I’m liking the design but something about it feels very juvenile, don’t you think? Designer: Reinier de Jong Design ---------- |
| Posted: 22 Jun 2011 04:45 AM PDT For a moment there was a sense of déjà vu and I thought the Papyrus was a refined View Trans. Apparently I was wrong; while the View Trans was a digital visual translating device, the Papyrus is a medium to view historical buildings and sites with a restored vision. Kinda was-before and is-now images using digital restoration techniques. For example, besides giving historic snippets about the Colosseum, the screen shows you how it used to look in its original glory. A very handy tool for tourists and researchers, alike! | Posted: 22 Jun 2011 04:16 AM PDT It's quite an indirect relation if you ask me, but charcoal can be good for your teeth. You see, charcoal is a good absorbent of bacteria and virus and thus we use coal (carbon) filters for sanitization. Applying the same theory here, Charcoal Sanitizer is a set of ceramic holders that are lined with charcoal for filtration. The stand looks elegant and the method is quite organic, so it's a clear thumbs-up from me! Charcoal Sanitizer is a 2010 reddot concept design winner. | Posted: 22 Jun 2011 01:16 AM PDT I love this thoughtful table design by Elda Bellone. Born as part of the designer’s “open object project,” tABLE consists of two overlapping tables that merge together seamlessly thanks to perfectly carved spaces in the lower table’s legs. Need an extra surface? Simply pull the upper table off to form two entirely separate and useful entities. Once apart they can be placed side by side, overlapping, or even separated into entirely different spaces as each individual table looks great with or without the other. | An All-around Great Kids’ Chair Posted: 22 Jun 2011 12:01 AM PDT The EVA chair has got everything covered when it comes to children’s seating. Besides being aesthetically playful & vibrantly colored, EVA is also soft, flexible, & super durable for even the roughest horseplay. What’s more is that the flat-pack design arrives as a planar surface & is formed into shape by fastening the symmetrical halves together with string; something kids & parents can work on together. Did I mention that it’s recyclable, eco-friendly, non-toxic, & requires minimal energy to transport? Phew! Designer: h220430 ---------- |
| Posted: 22 Jun 2011 12:01 AM PDT The VT36, is geared towards business professionals looking for a unique transportation alternative to the gridlocked streets of seaside cities like New York, Singapore, Shangai, and Dubai. The bullet shaped 36′ long speed yacht aims to provide a quick link between marina systems & business districts while providing simple comfort to passengers. Swivel seats can be adjusted for face-to-face meetings on the run, or positioned forward for windblown wake up call before the A.M. shift. Designer: Hyun-Seok Kim ---------- |
