Posted: 23 Aug 2011 03:37 AM PDT The Japanese wrapping cloth Furoshiki and the art of Origami inspire the F.O. Clock. It is made from 18 tessellated pieces and is constructively folded into a sleek modern artwork. The complex internal structural ribs belie the simplistic external design. Quite impressive! Posted: 23 Aug 2011 03:23 AM PDT The outstanding EZ Opener is a clever redesign of the can opener, simply because too many of us end up chipping our nails! Just kidding! The real intention is to make it easier for the silver generation and those with can-opening-issues, pop them open in a jiffy. The lever looks a bit elaborate to twist into place, but I guess if it works for grandma…it works for me! Designer: Ju-yeon Kim, Jin-beom Kim & Jin-seung Lee ---------- |
Posted: 23 Aug 2011 12:59 AM PDT Got a first generation Apple TV laying around and wondering what to do with it? Daniel Kurt came up with the idea of recycling it into the 1 Nixie Clock. Every structural element is reused along with new components like an integrated nixie controller board and tube holders.. The heavy duty tissue cable doubles as a power cord and wall mount string. All electronic components in the fully functioning clock are assembled by hand. Technical specifications: • Recycled Apple TV 1 body Designer: Daniel Kurth ---------- |
Posted: 23 Aug 2011 12:52 AM PDT The Rorschach inkblot test is famous for gauging one’s perception and imagination so designer Samuel Jerichow decided to use it tell time. The Rorschach watch has an e-ink display that generates inkblots to tell time. It’s a little difficult to read but once your eye is trained to recognize the patterns, it should become second nature. Hit the jump for the animations! Designer: Samuel Jerichow ---------- |
Posted: 23 Aug 2011 12:01 AM PDT While the swivel wheel is the most common for multi-directional movement, its biggest disadvantage is leaving the track when changing direction from forward to backward. After experimenting with different omni-balls for a robot design, Dr. Helmut Fritz discovered that combining the omni-ball with the cantilever of a swivel roller yielded an entirely new wheel. One that keeps a straight line even when direction is changed from forward to backward… introducing the Excenterball. Designer: Dr. Helmut Fritz ---------- |
Posted: 23 Aug 2011 12:01 AM PDT The sleek Sharko chef’s knife by EMAMIDESIGN is not only elegantly crafted but incredibly ergonomic. The broad forged steel blade curves perfectly toward the tip while the back is thick for weight and strength. A super comfortable Corian handle means you can rock through fine chopping, mincing, and straight cutting. Sure to be a kitchen workhorse. Designer: EMAMIDESIGN ---------- |
Posted: 23 Aug 2011 12:01 AM PDT When it comes to passenger safety the airbag is one of the most significant devices to be introduced to the automobile in the last 50 years, & is responsible for saving thousands of lives every year. The frontal airbag design has broadened to include side, curtain & even knee airbags, but why not exterior airbags? Easpace is an exterior airbag system that uses radar to detect potential collisions, preventing minor structural damage. Simply replace the airbag & voila, you’re on the road again!
