Whoa! Good Looking Tape Dispenser Posted: 11 Oct 2011 08:43 AM PDT Being innovative means moving beyond old habits and inventing something new. The Notchless tape dispenser achieves this with its unconventional design making it instantly recognizable as a tape dispenser. The form is reminiscent of a small snail with the roll of tape apparently floating weightlessly inside. The roll is held in place by a clear module which can easily be removed when replacing the tape. Made of aluminum and plastic. DO WANT! Designer: Kikuchi-Yasukuni Architects Inc. ----------
Mobile Communications for the Deaf Posted: 11 Oct 2011 08:39 AM PDT The Communicaid is a whole system of products designed to facilitate communication between deaf and hearing people. The Visual Sound Station and Glasses are portable devices for indoor and outdoor use. It catches important sounds from the environment and alerts deaf people visually. The Mobile Communicator is a handheld communication device to communicate with hearing people more efficiently and conveniently. Intrigued? Hit the jump. The Communicaid Visual Sound Station uses high quality MEMS microphones to capture specific sounds such as fire alarms, doorbells, or an individual calling and transfers them into visual queues of blinking lights and pictograms. Visual Sound Glasses listens for the sounds of the environment, then translates it into visual signals in front of their eyes. It captures specific sounds through the the eyeglass arms. The Mobile Communicator device features mobile phone functions e.g. video calls, SMS, e-mail, etc. Make and receive calls with anyone using text to voice and voice to text technology. This is the kind of natural speech technology designers and engineers have been dreaming up for years. ----------
Posted: 11 Oct 2011 01:04 AM PDT Smart Fridgerator is the mother of all smart fridges! It keeps the goodies ultra cool and conserves energy, but don't they all? So what is the deal behind this concept; for starters, it has eyes! Yes two strategically placed pin cameras that keep a track of what is stored in each compartment, so that when you want an apple, you know exactly which door to open. Why all the fuss; to keep doors shut and conserve as much energy as possible. Also to make you look cool with a Jetson-esque appliance which features a touch panel, recipe options and smartphone connectivity. Designers: Jeong-hun Yang & Gyeong-chan Han ----------
Posted: 11 Oct 2011 12:50 AM PDT A show of hands please, all those of you dreading shoveling the sidewalk this winter! It's quite a task and the toll it takes on your wrists … the less said the better. Xovel is an ergonomically modified shovel that promises to be easy on your body. It comes with a double-grip handle at the neck so that the forces are distributed in a more balanced and effective way. An integrated torchlight in the arm is quite a thoughtful addition. Snow on sidewalks, here I come! Designer: Jaeseok Han of Ahhaproject ----------
If I Could Have Sex With a Car Posted: 11 Oct 2011 12:04 AM PDT Set aside all your humility for just a moment and imagine yourself behind the wheel of this sexy beast! Designer Aldo Schurmann imagines the Ferrari Celeritas concept as not only a performance power-horse, but a red carpet-ready luxury toy for the unapologetic millionaire. Its style is quite shameless… and I love it. Simply put- it will always look hotter than the other guy’s. I’ll take the red one, of course. But looks aren’t everything- the Celeritas also features an uber-cool “shark skin” surface to enhance aerodynamics and dual rear spoilers that move independently to improve down force. A polished oil finish and high back make it an elegant choice for classic and contemporary rooms alike. Designer: Minwoo Lee ----------

The HALO heating spoon is a nifty little gadget that’ll keep your drink piping hot as long as you’d like. Intuitive controls and light/color signals make it super-easy to use. Just pop it in, switch on, and let it do the rest! Designers: Burcu Bag, Amalia Monica, & Vinay Raj Somashekar ---------- |
