Handsfree Landline

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 03:25 AM PST

Sadly not much innovation has come about in landline phones, which is why the Wavelength comes as a breath of fresh air. Basically the phone does away with 'any external receiver or headset to transmit and receive sound.' What this means is that you talk totally handsfree without the fear of eavesdropping and multitask like taking notes or chop some vegetables!

How it Works

As a substitute ‘Wavelength’ uses a directional (parametric array) speakers and a directional (parabolic) microphone to transmit and receive audio. This allows the user to engage in a completely private conversation through this device without having to hold or wear anything, making tasks like writing a note on a piece of paper or typing on the computer while on a call easier. During a conversation ‘Wavelength’ (with the help of a camera and rangefinder) will track the users face. A two axis pivot allows ‘Wavelength’ to aim the speaker and microphone accordingly. A detachable display and number pad can magnetically dock to the front of the device for charging. In addition the user can choose to activate the speaker and microphone on the detachable remote, if they wish to use the remote as a traditional cordless phone.

In the Mood for Neon

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 02:44 AM PST

Adding a third dimension to bendable neon tubes can have spectacular results. I'm talking about the Neon Tetra, a mood lamp that breaks the 100 year old tradition of glass tube bending only in 2 D. Vibrant and soulfully geometric, the lamp looks Über cool in pink, blue, red, green and yellow hues. As the designers point out, "looks high tech, cold to touch & consumes lesser power compared to light bulbs." Me wants!

All-Terrain Electric Beast

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 12:03 AM PST

The menacing-looking Misha all-terrain vehicle was designed specifically as a family car for use in the harsh Siberian climate. The slightly asymmetric body exists so the driver has a little more room to operate comfortably and so passengers can have a unique riding experience from seat-to-seat. Powered by four independent electric motors located in each wheel, Misha also features tires inspired by bear claws that have been adapted to grip the most treacherous of terrain.

Smarty iPad Cover

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 12:02 AM PST

As a proud iPad owner, I am disappointed to say I have yet to find a cover that I really love. I’m a purist at heart (and maybe even a little picky), so I like to hold the bare iPad & feel the aluminum back & overall thinness. The Smart Stand Sleeve is probably the closest thing I’ll find to what I want. It uses an ingenious folding technique & magnets to transform the case from a soft, protecting sleeve  (that isn’t bound to the iPad) into an angled stand for working or watching videos.

Sea-Life Inspired Shoes

Take a look at the bottom of the Octopax soccer shoe and its aquatic inspiration will be immediately obvious. Like the suckers and tentacles of an octopus, the outsole of this shoe utilizes air pockets and spaced grips to tear into the ground, providing maximum traction and enhancing maneuverability on the field.
