You know, the kind of action where hands come from every direction and push all your right buttons… ultimately letting off a little steam. Yeah, making coffee can be so HOT! Especially when it’s with “The Barista” by Patrik Pettersson. Patrick knows just what you want and how you take it with this multiple partner espresso machine. This carousel design allows for multiple cups of espresso to be made simultaneously so that your dinner party or “social” can be all hot and excited on caffeine at the same time…a group climax to the evening, if you will. Designer: Patrik Pettersson Texts from the designer: Docking mode Portable mode Collapse the brew unit by pressing down the top part, to raise it, give the handle a push and the machine will raise by itself to brewing mode. The turning top allows the users to access the machine from all directions. Place cups on the tray and rotate the turning top part to move the nozzle over to the other cups. |
| Posted: 02 Jul 2008 01:57 PM CDT Let’s reflect on the futility of some endeavors in life. I will borrow a chunk of a favorite Alicia Silverstone quote, playing Tic Tac Toe is as futile as “searching for meaning in a Pauli Shore movie…” One of the first games I ever learned to play as a child was Tic Tac Toe. The lesson I am assuming to be learned with Tic Tac Toe is that life is about the journey, because the destination is the same no matter what you do. None of that has anything to do with this design by Shahar Peleg. “Mirror Tic Tac Toe” is a rad little board game with half Os and Xs that only are complete when put in play… yet another metaphor about life? Not sure, I do know I am hungry and can’t philosophize on an empty stomach. Wait, is that also another metaphor? Designer: Shahar Peleg [ Via: DVICE ] |
| Posted: 02 Jul 2008 01:28 PM CDT I must admit, I am not really a fan of either Italian sport car maker Lamborghini or Italian fashion house Versace. Individually I find them both a little too macho, tacky, Euro-trashy. But when these two design powerhouses recently combined forces and delivered this stunning “Versace edition Murciélago LP640 Roadster by Lamborghini”, I was amazed. I guess the old adage “two wrongs don’t make a right” has officially been discredited. This machine is HOT! It has a certain raw sex appeal that only two sets of Italians can deliver. Versace tastefully applied their signature Versace Greek Key motif in all the right places making for a nearly perfect marriage of the Capulets and the Montagues, let’s hope no one dies this time around. | Posted: 02 Jul 2008 11:30 AM CDT Lately Monsieur Starck has been taking a well deserved bitch slapping by us fun loving bloggers for his proclamation that “design is dead”. He quickly contradicted that notion with his recent announcement that he is launching a new reality TV series for the BBC all about the design process. Well P. Starcky you may have redeemed yourself just a bit with your latest “dead design” called ‘Democratic Ecology’. This transparent mini-turbine/windmill can generate 20-60% of the energy needed to power a home, at a price point of around $633. Sure it’s not the most efficient windmill out there but it is a step in the right direction. Try to ignore the fact that The turbine was on display in an pop nightmare cube decorated with green rhetoric, clearly intended to maximize the turbine’s aesthetic potential. Kudos to Pramac, a company better known for oil and diesel generators helped with the technical aspects of this design and have clearly been bitten by the green bug. OK Phil, you have been granted a reprieve by at least me, you may continue to create some good karma for yourself. Designer: Philippe Starck [ Via: Inhabitat ] |
| Posted: 02 Jul 2008 11:28 AM CDT Designer Jason Kline discovered people don’t use most of the buttons on today’s TV remotes. The complex array of function only confuses some and alienates others. Most people also only watch 12 different channels so why are we still using these ever elongating sticks? Kline suggests another way called the Licentia. The Licentia is straight forward, no-nonsensical remote control consisting of 2 discs which can be spun or compressed in a number of gesture patterns to interact with your TV. Once you get the hang of it, channel hopping will become easier and faster. None of that cumbersome numeric keypad stuff. Unfortunately it’s saucer-like shape doesn’t mean it comes with alien technology so you won’t be turning off neighboring TV’s at huge tech conferences. Yeah, I’m looking at you Gizmodo.
