It is 20% faster and uses half the energy of a standard 900W toaster by having close-proximity low-temperature heating elements. If only one slice of bread it inserted then only one side of the toaster is turned on. It is also designed to be repaired if broken and disassembled at the end of its useful life. The window allows you to monitor the brownness of your toast and the Toast Drop system slides your toast straight onto a plate, ready to be eaten. It also features intuitive browning controls and turns on automatically when the front is closed. Designer: Rob Penny |
| Posted: 07 Jul 2008 03:13 PM CDT The Q.T. table embodies craft values with a contemporary twist. It is a response to a gap in the high-end furniture market for a quality, medium sized wooden coffee table. The concept was based on extensive turning and material experimentation. The tradition of using turned legs in furniture has been updated by contrasting pale lime against darker European Oak. The table balances craftsmanship, materiality, and quality against those of eclecticism and innovation. Of course to the uninitiated, this may all look like a coffee table with interesting legs; nothing more, nothing less. I can appreciate the craftsmanship. It’s the room setting I’m uneasy about. Paisley wallpaper? Green opals? Purple accents, and all in a French nouveau style. I’m trying really hard to find a clean line and angle. Designer: Elizabeth McKenzie |
| Stir it Stir it Stir it together… Posted: 07 Jul 2008 02:08 PM CDT I will let the words of the master of not-so-subtle innuendo Bob Marley tell you about this latest design called “Drip” by Ayumi Ueda. Quench me when Im thirsty; Drip is available in white metal, stainless steel and acrylic. Designer: Ayumi Ueda Texts from the designer: Drip is a tool to stir with. While drinking, it can be hung on the edge of the cup or glass. One can enjoy the subtlety of drops on it without worrying about making mess. Like Drip, my work aims at turning unnoticed events in our daily lives into something we can enjoy and appreciate. I believe, that this brings us excitements and different angle on how we receive and experience the world to our attention. Ayumi Ueda |
| Ferrari “we give up, you do it…” Posted: 07 Jul 2008 12:36 PM CDT Seems Italian car maker Ferrari has had just about enough of their whinny customers wanting custom this and custom that on their mid-life crisis. More than enough customers have waltzed into their Maranello headquarters with their own design ideas of the perfect Ferrari to convince executives at Ferrari to launch a “One Off” program. I can almost hear the conversation now between two Ferrari generals….Ferrari Exective #1 ” Asa matter witha all of dees people and their-a estupid designs ideas…? Mama mia! Whata we gonna do-a to shut-a dem up-a?” Ferrari Executive #2 ” Hey, I gotta a good idea! We take-a der money and we let-a them make-a whatever dey want-a…” Ferrari Executive #1 “ok, but no SUVs-a and no Ferrari Mini Vans-a”. So that’s the deal. For two million Euros you can bring in your own design. As long as it fits onto a current Ferrari chassis and your check clears, you can have your very own Ferrari “Dave” or Ferrari “Mohammed” or Ferrari “Takashi”… Enzo is spinning in his hand stitched leather grave.
