Emotional Backpack For Cyclists, What Fun!

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 03:06 AM PDT

Here is a totally cool backpack that goes by the name of SEIL Bag. It's a backpack meant for cyclists and features an LED Display (flexible PCB) on its face. The bag is designed to work in two modes: Driving Mode and Emotion Mode. In the Driving Mode it shows left and right turn signals for the rider, which is controlled via a detachable controller. This makes it easy for the following traffic to know the riders intent. The cool-quotient is upped with the Emotion Mode; here you can display a variety of emoticons, just for the heck of it.

The bag also displays brake signal, cruse signal and emergency signal; the acceleration sensor detects speed and turns on stop signal automatically. The signals can be controlled intuitively; pushing the lever up, turns on left turn signal and vice versa.

A very classy bag with a lot of use, I really dig the emoticon aspect!

Woody Phone

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 02:19 AM PDT

The MINIMA is a classic example of how important form is in the design process. The adorable lattice style for keypads and the wood finish, relay a completely organic look. Specific attention to details like the camouflaged secondary display on the outer flip and bamboo look, make this an object of desire. It looks like a refined version of the Maple Phone, don’t you think?

Electrolux Design Lab Finalists Get Mocked!

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 01:36 AM PDT

Socked! Well don't be, because this time the mocking is for a good reason. As a part of their competition procedure, Electrolux Design Lab finalists' designs get fabricated as mock-ups and are displayed at the Electrolux Design Lab booth at the 100% Design London fair. Here is a look at how glossy and sleek these futuristic products can look in our homes. As sketches and renders, it's difficult to judge how any product will adapt to its environment. Life-size replicas give us a peek at how they will look at home. The engineering and technology bit has been left out for the moment, but then that's what R&D is there for…we'll let the techies worry about the workings while we celebrate Product Design!

Behold! Endless Tea!

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 12:03 AM PDT

This project goes by the name of “Infinitea” and it’s a project to project the awesomeness of tea unto the stars. Made with just stainless steel, Borosilicate glass, magnets, and heat resistant rubber. What this pot does is allow you to see the whole tea-to-boiling-water steeping and unfurling. Where before it was a two step process and not the most fun in the world, now it’s just one. And that one step IS the most fun in the world. Then you get to pour the tea (filtered through the cap) into your cup and drink it, too, bonus!

This project came along, I aught to say, when designer Jason Valalik purchased the lovely Sorapot as designed by Joey Roth. This pot is of course available for purchase in our store, so get over there and buy it! Then listen to the rest of this story – once Jason received the Sorapot, he was very pleased at the main idea – the fact that you get to see the unfurling of tea leaves right before your eyes. But then he wanted less! He wanted not only that part of the process to be included in the pot, he wanted to be able to boil the water in the pot at the same time, and he wanted a different shape!

So, teaming up with Jae Lee, Valalik set to work making this lovely “Infinitea,” which, they’d love to mention, is currently in production limbo. So you! The one with the money! Work with them to make it! And totally cash in, drinking tasty tea while you do it.

A Quantitative Tap

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 12:03 AM PDT

How awesome would it be to have a faucet that pre-measures the amount of water you’d like to come out of it before it comes out of it? Designer Jasper Hou is making that fantasy of cooking pleasure a reality with “No More No Less,” a quantitative tap with pre-control. N.M.N.L. does this with a simple countdown, knowing how much water comes out of the tap on full blast times the amount of time it comes out equals the amount you’ll get. Then there’s an LCD screen for control, temperature, and a 30 second on time.

The LCD screen is even powered by the water rushing below it. The 30 second meter turns the faucet off 30 seconds after the last use to make sure there’s no flooding and to assure low energy expenditure.

A Random Time

Posted: 23 Sep 2010 12:03 AM PDT

A watch that you place upon your wrist for the purpose of telling the time, but not for time’s sake, for the sake of keeping wonder and playfulness alive. This watch is called “Time Lines” and its apparent improper and random placement of lines in the design create “a dialogue with the clock face,” keeping for itself a unique identity while it tells you when it’s time to go check Yanko for updates.

The designer of this watch is infamous on Yanko for creating some spectacular spectacles, most of them wild watches like this one. Feel free to devour all the works of Denis Guidone and don’t forget the rest of the time we’ve got listed.
