| Posted: 23 Feb 2011 08:18 AM PST I use a Wacom everyday and love the experience except why not just make it a screen with multitouch? I was delighted when a twitter follower tipped me off on this concept by Derick Schweppe. Let me preface by saying this is an unofficial concept. The Android OS Wacom tablet can be used as an input for fully featured software like Photoshop and incorporates a dual digitizer with both active pen and touch input. When sketching with the pen, palm rejection is activated. The tablet utilizes a high quality IPS display. Do want! Designer: Derick Schweppe, Hat tip to idsketching and @marchedesign ---------- |
| Posted: 23 Feb 2011 12:03 AM PST It’s easy to dismiss a simple table when there’s a superfluous design element, but I like the architectural form of this Side Table. The randomly placed rails also constitute the legs. There’s a fluidity in the design, emphasized by the softly curved wood surfaces. What appears to by unnecessarily complex makes total sense. | Speakers Have a Magnetic Talent Posted: 23 Feb 2011 12:03 AM PST The Dome Speaker consists of two satellites and a subwoofer but their geodesic design serves another purpose besides looking cool. It provides level planes to magnetically attach the two satellites to their base. Pose them in any direction to get sound exactly where you want. The subwoofer magnetically floats, supported only by three thin rods flooding the room with bass. Sexy audio. Designer: Matej Korytar ---------- |
| Posted: 23 Feb 2011 12:02 AM PST Bands like Jump Little Children, Beirut, and the Arcade Fire have helped me come to appreciate the accordion, and in turn, this design. That is precisely the relationship the Accordion Cabinet hopes to build with you. Mixed wood and wooden textile combine to form a flexible skin surrounding the solid wood shelving on top of it’s long legs. Those who can make the association are sure to form a long lasting relationship with this piece. Designer: Elisa Strozyk in collaboration with artist Sebastian Neeb ---------- |
| Posted: 23 Feb 2011 12:01 AM PST This simplistic luminaire consists of two trapezoidal pieces of metal that together form a hexagonal outline. Trapezium’s exposed top and bottom each cast a soft light cone while light pushes through the narrow lateral gaps on each side to display thin streaks on the surrounding walls. The direct and indirect light contrasts to yield the simple yet surprising geometric form of a trapezium. Designer: Robert Hoffmann ---------- |

| Posted: 23 Feb 2011 12:01 AM PST Dare to get the iQ Alarm clock only if you’re smarter than a fifth grader. The clock has no snooze button so instead, challenges you with brain teasers to shut the damn thing off! Expect to wake up to questions like "What's your favorite Design Blog?" Why of course, Yanko Design! You can set the alarm to incessantly ring until you answer anywhere from 1-3 questions. What's really clever is the clock has a hard-to-open battery compartment so to power it off you need to press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Like the designer puts it, "This is an alarm you will love to hate." Designer: Oliver Sha ---------- |
| Posted: 23 Feb 2011 12:01 AM PST Security features in money run the gamut from watermarks, security threads, specialized inks and papers that are easily identifiable. In spite of this, counterfeit notes still circulate so the battle is now waged on the other front – identifying them. The Intelligent Counting is a ring fitted with sensors that detects the specialized inks currently used in paper currency. As a bonus, it also counts your money for you, unless you squander it all!
