Business in the Front, Party in the Back Posted: 22 Feb 2011 12:06 AM PST Mercedes and cute are two words that are rarely used in combination, but there’s no denying the cute factor in Mohammad Ghezel’s Mercedes ELA concept for the 2011 Michelin Challenge Design Showcase. The ELA’s lightweight but structurally sound body reflects what could be the future look of HOVs to come. In contrast with it’s bee-like exoskeleton, the interior is intimate for both passenger and driver. Designer: Mohammad Ghezel ----------
Posted: 22 Feb 2011 12:03 AM PST Playing with lighting is one of the most crucial steps in interior design. MODLI was designed with this in mind. It allows the user to shape the illuminated object to the form of their choice, creating unique effects and completely customizable options. Now anyone can visualize and create the perfect lighting arrangement. MODLI is simple and practical for maintenance and provides versatile lighting effects in public areas and as an architectural light. Designer: Vanja Valencak ----------
Map Your Travels by Scratching Posted: 22 Feb 2011 12:03 AM PST The Scratch & Track concept enables you to log your travels with printable papers embedded with a scratchable surface. You print maps of your destination on the paper and scratch off where you’ve been to create an analog keepsake of your travels. It even folds up like a map! Me, myself and I are partial to the digital age but I can totally see the novelty of scratchable maps spreading as fast as hipstamatic photos. Designer: Yuree S. Lim ----------
Posted: 22 Feb 2011 12:02 AM PST Tried getting AA batteries out of any device lately? It’s not easy. I usually defer to banging the device upside down in my palm to eject them but if the Seesaw ever comes to fruition, those days are over. It’s a AA battery with a paradigm shift in packaging. The tapered edges makes it easy to eject one end by pushing down on the opposite side. Clever, CLEVER! Designer: Young Suk Kim ----------
Hot Bowls Make for Sad Fingers Posted: 22 Feb 2011 12:02 AM PST I love me some pho – the epitome of Vietnamese cuisine, but anyone who has experience with serving hot soup of any kind knows you either pick it up by the rim or gingerly push it off the edge until your fingers can get underneath it. It takes skill and a kind of equilibrium prowess. The Take Easy bowl has a special base with just enough space for your fingers. An effective solution with a simple design. The Take Easy Bowl is a 2011 iF concept design entry. Designers: Cheng-Wei Wang & Jiuan Mau Tzeng ----------
Posted: 22 Feb 2011 12:01 AM PST The S-Lav Kitchen Sink is 4-step dishwashing process that saves you time and dishwater hands. The first step is the scrap bin for leftover food. The second step is for soaking and step three is for soaping and rinsing. Finally step five is a dish rack for drying. This linear workflow pretty much mimics how everyone washes dishes but the production-line setup makes things move smoother and faster. Designer: Juan Francisco Solari Howard ----------
Posted: 22 Feb 2011 12:01 AM PST The NewFresh Air Purifier maximizes the absorption of contaminated gases and chemical fumes by utilizing highly active, super microporous carbon. Active carbon is a unique absorbent that offers an efficient and natural solution for cleansing the air. This quality is further enhanced by NewFresh’s patented technology which energizes airflow to achieve a high rate of air penetration into the carbon cavities. Designer: Rodney Loh ----------
