| Posted: 12 Apr 2011 08:47 AM PDT The 40 Years coffee set concept is a play off the Turkish proverb “a cup of coffee commits one to forty years of friendship.” The set is designed to facilitate the proper steaming and preparation of Turkish coffee by allowing the dregs to settle into the bottom of the ceramic tumbler. The glass cup beneath holds the all important liquor for a real kick. Everything neatly stacks together for storage. Turkish Coffee sets are usually ornate so it’s refreshing to see a modern version. | Posted: 12 Apr 2011 08:36 AM PDT Aryton Senna’s 1986 Lotus 98T is probably one of the most iconic Formula One cars. It’s the last in a long line of cars in the beautiful John Player Special colors of black and gold. This concept reinterprets these colors for Team Lotus in the F1 season 2011. It celebrates the pure beauty of F1 cars with matte black sponsor logos instead of bright obnoxious branding. Black carbon fibre is left unpainted to reduce weight. The top surfaces are coated with a matte finish to improve laminar flow reducing turbulence and increasing aerodynamic efficiency. Designer: Sonny Lim ---------- |
| Posted: 12 Apr 2011 08:30 AM PDT The LIFEBOOK X2 concept takes a different approach to portability. It’s not only thin, but also folds into quarters which leads to some interesting features. Open the LIFEBOOK X2 halfway and you have sort of an ultra widescreen palm top. Unfold it completely and you have one full size notebook. This denotes a seam running right across the LCD which is enough for me to dismiss it but the idea is intriguing. What’s say you? Designer: Park Hyun Jin ---------- |
| Posted: 12 Apr 2011 01:05 AM PDT The Kinected Conference project utilizes sound sensors and, you guessed it, the world’s fast selling consumer electronics device to implement some really cool features into videoconferencing. Freezing Former Frames stop the current frame, “freezing” a chosen area so you can text or complete another task without offending the person on the other end. Talking to Focus recognizes the speaker and blurs out the rest when there are multiple people in frame. I might need that one for our video blog (jk Long!). Catch the vid for more on KC! | Posted: 12 Apr 2011 12:43 AM PDT This new collection of suspended LED lamps by Integral Studio Vinaccia utilize an overlay of hard wooden slats to create volume and soft familiar shapes. A cloud of wood blades form the Cumulus lamp as it seemingly floats while spreading soft light and the Frame lamp’s wood slats hold an interchangeable central screen that casts elaborate shadows on the surrounding space. The entire collection is available in natural wood, or painted white or black. Designer: Giulio & Valerio Vinaccia ---------- |
| Posted: 12 Apr 2011 12:15 AM PDT This friendly looking lamp by Enrico Salis supports a single shelf for books and other objects while it’s adjustable upper arm holds a paper chandelier- almost as if it’s presenting an offering of light to the user. The adjustable upper arm can be set in two positions while the electrical wire remains hidden within the simple but rigid supporting structure. This straightforward design makes a great lighting solution bedside or near a comfy chair; perfect for late night reading. Designer: Enrico Salis ---------- |
