A Phone That Speaks Your Language Posted: 20 Apr 2011 08:05 AM PDT The Transducer Mobile Phone Concept breaks down the language barrier by being the perfect translator between you and the other caller. It has this cool function that allows all incoming calls to be translated to your preferred language and vice versa. Amongst other features like GPS, transparent LCD and mesmerizing color effects, you can use the phone to communicate with the hearing & sight impaired folks. Far-fetch but a concept we’d love to see become reality. The digital scan feature allows you to read translated books, poster, menus etc. as well as turn text into audio feedback. I think I'm more sold on the fact that it looks sleek and pocketable. Designer: Jasper Hou ----------
Posted: 20 Apr 2011 08:04 AM PDT Think about it, instead of having a straight tube ink refill, how about fashioning it as a spiral? Agreed it occupies a bit more space so the pen can't be sleek and slim, but it holds double the amount of ink! There’s a reason why our DNA is structured in a double helix. I guess it will work like a charm for those disposable types, making them last longer. I won't call this project 100% eco-esque but it's a step towards it! T&T Pen-ink Chamber is a 2011 iF concept design entry. Designers: by Han Chi-hoon, Kim Yeon-soo, Park Byong-gon & Kim Sung-geun ----------
Posted: 20 Apr 2011 07:55 AM PDT Similar in form to the iconic 1960s Ovalia Egg Chairs, this egg cup design of the same name by Anima Dinamica is both playful and functional. The Egg Chair is oven, microwave, dishwasher, and freezer safe, and can withstand temperatures from -50 C to 300 C. The resting back ensures an even heat spread and adds stability to the upwardly concave seat to ensure that your egg experiences maximum comfort… right before you eat it. After all, a happy egg is a tasty egg. Get it here. Designer: Anima Dinamica ----------
Creepy Crawly Seating Creature Posted: 20 Apr 2011 07:10 AM PDT When it comes to unique seating, the Millipede by Michael Samoriz takes the cake. This arthropodic stool looks like a science experiment that escaped and headed straight for the bar. I’m still not sure how many legs it has, but it’s a lot, and the user will feel more like a “rider” than a “sitter.” Though the legs look randomly placed they are situated to provide maximum stability, so unless the rider is rocking to and fro with wild abandon they should be just fine. Me likey. Designer: Michael Samoriz ----------
| Posted: 20 Apr 2011 12:26 AM PDT Just months after the successful launch of the original Gravity watch, Ziiiro is back with two additions to the lineup; the Aurora and Orbit. The Aurora displays time using two transparent gradient discs, blue indicating the hour and yellow – the minute. The overlapping colors create green and the effect creates a clear definition between “hours” and “minutes”. The Orbit displays time by utilising two “planets”, the colored orb representing the hour and white orb displaying the minute. This model uses the same strap like the previous Gravity watches (rubber strap, no clasp), so it’s fully interchangeable. You can mix & match to your heart’s content. | Posted: 20 Apr 2011 12:21 AM PDT Hong Kong based design group Special Projekt were commissioned to create one-of-a-kind window displays for the the Aqua restaurant in London. The goal was to drive awareness through the development of interactive brand installations. Large interactive screens are suspended inside a mirrored and lacquered box. The red one features meiji inspired motifs while the black display features castilian motifs. The final effect is three dimensional, timeless yet ephemeral.
