| CKIE Spotlight: Nooka Wall Clock Posted: 26 Apr 2011 08:55 AM PDT I have quiet little corner in my heart for Nooka products. They’ve created a brand unique in a world of “me too” designs. Everyone and I do mean EVERYONE rocks Nooka wrist wear. Teens, dads, celebs – hell, even the most pragmatic people find something endearing about Nooka watches. But why limit it to your wrist? The designs are clearly strong and bold enough to exist in a different format. The Nooka Wall Clock is like a Nooka watch on steroids, sans wrist strap of course. Support it on CKIE. People have been asking for it – a giant size version of the classic Nooka watch face and it’s finally here. The watches turned wall clocks fare even better with all the extra real estate. Everything is BIGGER and easier to read while retaining the fit and finish Nooka products are known for. It’s a stunning example of how good design is easily translatable into many forms. Through CKIE, you have the opportunity to make sure the Nooka Wall Clock receives the funding it deserves. $500 gets you a pre-order of the ZenV display. $550 gets you a pre-order of the Zirc display and $1000 gets you the “OMFG it’s so GORGEOUS” copper ZenH. There are many rewards for smaller investments. For as little as $50, you get the mini nookanooka, the official Nooka mascot, whom by the way is famous in the vinyl toy market. Reach a little deeper in those pockets and you get to choose from a number of rewards from Nooka’s ever-expanding line of wallets, sunglasses and of course watches. | Posted: 26 Apr 2011 08:21 AM PDT The X-Grip Wiper is a hand sanitizing system for shopping carts that works in sync with their coin-lock system. Most shopping carts are free-to-use, however the problem of unsanitary handrails is common to all. Germs GERMS! Locking system or not, I think it's a good idea to have a X-Grip integrated on all carts. Many stores have complimentary sanitizing wipes but most people seem to ignore them. | 2011 eVolo Magazine Skyscraper Competition Posted: 26 Apr 2011 08:20 AM PDT This year’s finalists for eVolo Magazine’s Skyscraper Competition pushed the bar and came up with some fascinating and innovative superstructures. From a vertical farm skyscraper complete with cows and chickens to an abandoned oil rig turned chic urban habitat, this year was clearly about imagining fully sustainable vertical environments and finding new purposes for existing structures. Hit the jump and check out these cutting edge concepts! Designers: Various ---------- |
| Posted: 26 Apr 2011 08:18 AM PDT Your socializing is just a tweet or a like away and to keep with trends, we have here the On Display MID. It’s quite a cool device with a dedicated Google search app with dual displays. When closed, the top half is occupied by a transparent display that gives you real time feed back from your social media spaces. Not much else is known about this concept. Has the palmtop form factor completely died out? Designer: Choi Koun ---------- |
| Posted: 26 Apr 2011 07:39 AM PDT This table isn’t prego and no, it didn’t eat too much. It’s the Bloated Desk and it and it’s siblings the Bloated Shelf and Bloated Coat Hanger, are, well… they’re just sort of bloated! This intriguing take on the familiar incorporates a fairly simple process to achieve the form – no complicated molds and no seams are used in production, instead, sheets of leather are filled with expanding foam, inflating the leather to make naturally unique pieces. | Posted: 26 Apr 2011 07:09 AM PDT Though it’s aesthetically modern, the organic shape of the Flame lamp by Santiago Sevillano will deliver character and warmth to any space no matter the style. Using an internal battery with induction base, Flame is completely wireless and originally intended for use outdoors, however, it looks quite nice inside. I particularly like the evenness of the light distribution that creates an eye-catching, sort of 2D effect. Designer: Santiago Sevillano ---------- |
| Posted: 26 Apr 2011 12:05 AM PDT Minimalism is really a tough art to master. The balance between function and aesthetics is beautifully achieved in these two products. A clock/radio in which the speaker and LED display share the same surface. The aluminium case gives the product a timeless appeal and material quality rarely found today. The slim proportions of this wireless speaker, resembling those of a book, allow it to sit unobtrusively on a shelf or table top. The speaker seamlessly connects to a smart phone or music player to transmit phone calls and music wirelessly. Designer: DesignWright for Lexon ---------- |
| Posted: 26 Apr 2011 12:01 AM PDT Orcas aren’t known for their nut cracking skills but that doesn’t mean kitchen utensils shouldn’t be modeled after them. This ORCA is adorable. Clad in trademark black and white, the ORCA nut cracker makes it easy and fun to crack open even the toughest nuts. Silicon surfaces make it easy to grip and the internal mechanism can crack nuts of almost any size. So cute! Designer: Designnobis & Dr. Hakan Gürsu ---------- |
