| Herman Miller Showcases 5 California Architects Posted: 07 Jun 2011 08:17 AM PDT Herman Miller recently launched a new section of their website called POV (point of view). The website includes stunning photography and exclusive video interviews with architects Leo Marmol and Ron Radziner, Kim Coleman, James Meyer, Jim Jennings and John Friedman. What a beautiful way to check out these inspired spaces. I may have to visit them all. There’s also a contest to win Julius Shulman’s “Modernism Rediscovered”- a collection from the photographer’s personal archives. Website: Herman Miller POV ---------- |
| Posted: 07 Jun 2011 07:53 AM PDT Adrian Castro originally conceived the MoonWatch in 2004 and decided to update it for 2011 using new materials and tech. Made of high-strength plastic, lacquered in different colors and equipped with an LED screen that displays time via numeric codes and digital hands. Other variations include titanium, gel silicone, leather and carbon fiber straps. The unique shape of the MoonWatch is supposed to better fit the wrist and the overall design is pretty unisex. | Induction Cooking with a Twist Posted: 07 Jun 2011 07:47 AM PDT If it’s compact tabletop cooking you're looking for, then please do consider the Jumble. It's a flexible set of induction cooking plates with individual temperature zones, controlled by a remote control. It's easy to juggle the dishes from one zone to another, depending upon the cooking time and technique used. Freeing up prime counter space, the appliance is as practical as it gets. | Posted: 07 Jun 2011 07:45 AM PDT Solar Window is quite a clever design especially if appropriately placed. A transparent solar panel glazes the window and helps in harnessing the sun’s energy. Conveniently located plug-sockets and multi-tap, help hook up appliances and gadgets. A simple concept that can have very positive implications. Awesome! | Posted: 07 Jun 2011 12:03 AM PDT Check out Beat, the ultimate, all-in-one running accessory! This gesture controlled device will play your music, monitor your heart rate, count your strides, and even call you fat when you’re about to give up (I kid! But hey… it might as well.). Beat uses an innovative gesture interface that seamlessly integrates into the running experience. No more sweaty fingers or touch displays. Flick your hand right/left to switch songs, twist it to pump up the volume, or play your power song by punching forward! Do want! Designer: Adrien Guenette ---------- |
| Posted: 07 Jun 2011 12:01 AM PDT Designer Nicola Loi’s goal in creating the Mirtillo table was to achieve a clean shape with maximum simplicity while maintaining recognizable originality. The polarizing design features two sides with hard lines & an unsupported corner that provides a light & an open view into the core of the table. In contrast, the opposing sides feature soft, flowing curves & a shaved corner with a narrower, more curious view into to the table’s lower center. I’d love to see this piece in pure white or clear polycarbonate. Dimensions: height 45 cm, surface 60×60 cm, footprint 80×80 cm Designer: Nicola Loi ---------- |
| Posted: 07 Jun 2011 12:01 AM PDT The Open Water 60 M combines the amenities of a luxury yacht & the storage capabilities of a long-distance cruiser into one superyacht with an explorer-ship aesthetic. The exterior is straightforward & follows a modern expression of form, an upcoming trend in yacht design. In the cabin, modern interior design, traditional elements, & surfaces of wood, stone, & metal fuse to create a strong contrast in texture & color while floor-to-ceiling windows emphasize the open living arrangement. The 60m yacht also features plenty of extra space so the user never has to leave any of their favorite toys behind. The upper main deck is fit with helipad, spa/fitness area, and jacuzzi, but still leaves room for jet skis, a dinghy, or private submarine… there’s even room for your Tesla roadster. The opulent interior is fit with a spacious dining area, an observatory with panoramic views, room for 12 VIP guests, and a lofty owner’s suite with an open floor plan.
