| Simplicity and Style Meet in Gorgeous Bicycle Posted: 08 Jun 2011 08:46 AM PDT DV01 is a bicycle concept for people who want a bike to be a convenient means of transportation and a product with high aesthetic value. For many people a bicycle is a place to express personal style. It’s also a product that consists of many different components and parts, which all affect the overall impression. The focus of the project has been about finding a balance between those components. When form and function interact in a successful symbiosis, the product may last longer and loved by more people. | Posted: 08 Jun 2011 08:41 AM PDT Baby NEST I-plus, a full feature incubator, provides the ideal environment for neonatal/premature infants. Baby NEST I-plus is an enclosed neonatal intensive care microenvironment developed to meet the needs of both clinicians and patients. Several unique features provide a superior developmentally appropriate environment for the patient, while simplifying procedures for the clinician. With pioneering new technologies for newborns and their caregivers, it simplifies equipment ergonomics to support nursing care. Baby NEST I-plus is the first incubator that can be converted to an open bed with warmer and phototherapy unit still installed. A Therapy module can be rotated 90 degrees on both sides. A Hood unit can be opened to allow two clinicians to care for the infant simultaneously while the baby remains in the incubator, reducing handling and adverse stimulation. The Hood unit can also be tilted partially in safety. Twin mattress and large canopy is suitable for tracing and treatment of premature and light weight babies in ICU. Rotating mattress with Trendelenburg mechanism minimizes unnecessary baby stimulation, rotates 360 degrees to allow proper positioning for all types of procedures without disturbing the infant. The device offers a broad adjustable range for various procedures and family interaction. There’s also a large 8.4″ LED display with pertinent oxygen, humidity, air temperature, body and skin temperature stats. Designer: Dr. Hakan Gürsu for Designnobis ---------- |
| Doing Dishes the Non-Electric Way Posted: 08 Jun 2011 08:37 AM PDT EcoWash is your friendly dishwasher/dinner-set holder that you can take along on picnics and camping trips. Combining the components of a bucket of water, cleaning brush, suds and drying, this compact portable machine is ideal for the outdoors. The crank handle works the inner machinery to rotate the dish rack for cleaning purposes. Water is sourced through a tap or a pipe and is expelled with the grime through a special release slot. The optional rinse cycle works on the same principles but the drying system works using centrifugal force; a system similar to the function of a vegetable dryer. The washer clips on a set of four dinner plates and cutlery. Although this design is intended for the outdoors, I think it will work just as well indoors, especial for those who want to combine a little bit of muscles workout to their daily routine. | CKIE Spotlight: The CalypsoCase Posted: 08 Jun 2011 08:35 AM PDT After looking through several cases for my precious phone, I finally settled on a case that promised to save it from scratches and would bear the brunt if it slipped and fell. The case was hideous and it didn't even save my phone when the inevitable happened. Shattered display and a broken heart later, I had written off all phone cases, till the CalypsoCase happened. It's a case that doesn't hide the phone under a body amour; in fact it celebrates the design genius with elegance. Looks like iPhone, BlackBerry, HTC and Samsung users are going to Calypso with me! Investment in the right kind of phone case may seem trivial on the surface, but trust me when it comes to the protection aspect and chic looks, not many of them can boast of having both. The CalypsoCase gives out the vibe that functionality and beauty can be a package deal. So why should we compromise one for the other. Take for instance the attention to detail; most leather cases have uneven, wrinkled corners that look like a bad face job. To overcome this and to add a dash of shimmy, the enterprising band of boys from Slovenia have designed the unique CalypsoClasp. This metal U gives the edges a perfect finish and glams up the case with gold, black silver, silver or platinum finishing. European fashion can be as quirky as the toilet-seat hat or as elegant as Pippa and Kate Middleton. CalypsoCase's elegance and beauty surpasses the regular fare seen in stores. Each case is handcrafted with laser cut precision and is made from high-grade materials like premium Italian leather, titanium inner enclosure and a special slip-resistant inner lining to make sure accidental slips don't happen. To ensure that we don't break our phones or guise them in garbs, CalypsoCase is looking for funding through CKIE. Your pledge can help shape the dreams of this talented design team, who has braved the odds to come up with such a cool product. You can Pre-order your very own Backer's Only Edition CalypsoCase or support their cause; whatever suits you best. Just make a CKIE pledge! Designers: Matej Kurent on CKIE ---------- |
| FINALLY! A Flat Pack Mannequin Posted: 08 Jun 2011 12:03 AM PDT Besides chuckling every time I see a naked mannequin, I wonder, “where the heck does anyone have room to keep those awkward things?” Industrial design hot house, Arash and Kelly Studio, saw the potential for improvement, so they developed ZiPP, a flat pack, zip-able mannequin that provides a low cost, no bulk solution for displaying items. The bust, waist, & full length figures are made of lightweight, semitransparent polypropelene; perfect for trade shows, new launches, or retail window displays. | Posted: 08 Jun 2011 12:02 AM PDT Who doesn’t remember makeshift telephones made of wire and cans? The Invoxicated interactive play sculpture is a bit like that, but a bit more complex, a lot cooler looking, and it actually works! Children can explore the playful qualities of sound by talking into one end of the sculpture to produce sound for the listener on the other end. By bending parts of the sculpture and pressing its various buttons, a multitude of sound effects can be achieved in real time. | Posted: 08 Jun 2011 12:01 AM PDT It’s no surprise that designer Jason Falconer took 1st Place at this years PAL Robotics’ REEM-C design challenge. Being the editor of robot-blog PlasticPals, the designer naturally developed inspiration from various designs over time. Understanding the dos and don’ts of humanoid robot design, Falconer payed close attention to the approachability of the robot by smoothing out the face, emphasizing the eye area, and designing the overall proportions of the figure to be as similar to the human silhouette as possible.
