| Posted: 27 Jun 2011 08:57 AM PDT Nuum is a planter designed for individuals to explore their restorative possibilities through human and plant interaction. Confused? In a nutshell, it’s a self watering planter. Inspiration came from horticultural therapy. Horticultural therapy involves a therapist assisting their patient in achieving a goal of both emotional and/or physical healing using plants and gardening techniques. Nuum’s simplicity in its function and form allows the user to feel at ease and security when interacting with the plant. A key component in horticultural therapy is to not over whelm the user or cause any distress. Each individual planter includes 4 soil pucks (peat pellets), and 4 seed sticks with instructions. | Posted: 27 Jun 2011 05:04 AM PDT Apple has really spoilt us silly with their groovy touch interface on phones and digital players. Taking this feel to the next level is designer Arash Karimi with his Wall and Bedside Table Touch Clock. The clock has a one giant App appeal and can be configured and navigated quite intuitively. What makes the design perfect for both wall-mount and bedside table, is the angled display. Sweet! Designer: Arash Karimi ---------- |
Posted: 27 Jun 2011 04:44 AM PDT I have two printers at home and not one of them as smart as this Humble Home Printer by Tom Peach. For eons printers have got the second-class treatment as computer peripherals; at the most they get jazzed up with colors or integrate some new tech feature. Design-wise they remain boxy as ever! Humble is a refreshing change and given the detailed plans, I'm sure it will be a practical home option. Designer: Tom Peach ----------
Posted: 27 Jun 2011 12:39 AM PDT I love this new collection of lights and hanging racks by designer Kristian Aus for Aussie brand Under! Completely designed and manufactured in Australia, the collection plays with ideas of exposure and concealment as well as hard lines met with soft light and brilliant colors. The common thread found throughout this diverse collection is that all of the items, however different, are also very playful, inviting both physical contact and contemplation. Triangulate Coat Rack: Dottie Coat Rack: Hut Pendant Light: Facet Pendant Light: Facet is a sleek pendant light made from two identical steel halves to form a shade, which directs, conceals and reflects light from both within and without. It is an ever changing shape depending on your viewpoint. Cornered Fluorescent Light: Metal Petal Pendant Light: Designer: Kristian Aus for Under ----------
Posted: 27 Jun 2011 12:06 AM PDT With young students and professionals in mind, the Float compact folding solar catamaran was designed to be an affordable, portable weekend water vessel. The craft is powered via the retractable solar cell roof that can be adjusted for maximum sun exposure or as a sun screen. Users steer the catamaran with a simple gyroscopic handle while they lean back and enjoy a comfy mesh hammock designed to recreate the feeling of lying on the sand. Best of all, the craft collapses to fit into a standard rooftop car carrier. Designer: Jeffrey Greger ----------
Posted: 27 Jun 2011 12:01 AM PDT The Talk mobile communications concept is a response to reduced government spending on healthcare for elderly populations, an epidemic that effects not only millions of seniors but the family and friends of those who are vulnerable and living alone. The easy to use pendant can be customized to call up to 3 designated numbers, assuring that loved ones have access to 24 hour support at the push of a button. Designer: Tom Harries ----------
