| Posted: 16 Aug 2011 04:51 AM PDT I have been wearing contact lenses since I was in my 8th grade, so this story is too close to home and I know exactly how this design is going to help me. RLens are contacts with temperature-sensitive diagrams of "R" and "L" printed on them. The alphabets become visible when the lens is out of the eye and disappear when worn. This feature is beneficial in two ways: you will always wear the correct lens & incase you drop one; it will be easier to find it because of the visible lettering. The compact instrument features a unique double-sided key design that enables the musician to play two distinctive sounds in an ergonomic reach-around style, allowing for greater movement and musical control no matter the player’s dominant side. The only problem is that I also love my big phone, and squeezing it out of my pocket just to check texts or the time can be quite a procedure. The slim, minimal Glance phone by designer Alan Farías is tight-jean friendly and features a genius little screen on its bottom side in addition to the larger main screen, so even when your phone is in your pocket you can take a discreet glance down to check the battery, see who’s blowing up your email, texts, twitter, or even to casually check the time. It’s usually my luck that I’ll be tempted by the nearest snack shop, run in for something quick, and end up missing my ride! This smart bus shelter design, imagined specifically for the city of Dublin, syncs with buses to provide riders with a visual indication of estimated wait times through simple, color-changing LED panels. Designed for Dublin’s bid to the 2014 World Design Capital, designer John McGowan also thought the shelter should reflect characteristics of the city. The protective roof is composed primarily of fiberglass-reinforced concrete which is then coated in a thin layer of bronze; a material with deep historical roots in Ireland. Contrasting the traditional material, the form takes inspiration from Dublin’s Spire monument, an architectural design that has been heralded as one of the few to compliment the city’s traditional style.
