Posted: 21 Sep 2010 01:10 AM PDT Here is a sweet alternative to hearing your music on the go, The Ecoball! The portable ball splits into two to reveal speakers and a volume controller. The beauty is that you have the option of solar charging it via the panels integrated into the carry strap. And of course it syncs with your gadget effortlessly to play bombastic music! Definitely picnic material! Designer: Pedro Gomes ----------
Posted: 21 Sep 2010 01:00 AM PDT Human actions play such a significant role in design; it's either evident in the form or in the function. In the Pouring Light, the action is evident in the form and is delightfully executed as well! With the motive of giving off "an emotional flow of light", the lights linger on with a mesmerizing effect thanks to the use of phosphorescence in the "water" part. Yeongwoo suggests the use of LED lights to conserve energy, and my suggestion to him: get this in the market ASAP! Designer: Yeongwoo Kim ----------
Visually Impaired with Fine Hands Posted: 21 Sep 2010 12:10 AM PDT A new dimension of sightless awareness equipment. This is the “VIA” Visually Impaired Assistant, a pair of hand-centric devices to make the day of a visually impaired person a whole lot easier. These devices use VMD Video Motion Detection technologies, 4 mini cameras, and a voice operated GPS receiver, all to act as both a walking stick and a mapping system. All the while looking rather fabulous on the hands as sensually molded pieces of jewelry (or “super heavy-duty metal equipment” if you’re too masculine for that sensual “J” word.) These devices use 2 different vibration mechanisms to guide the user away from obstacles and toward their final bespoken destination. VIA is charged via a wirelessly functioning mat (that incidentally, I wish I had for every one of my other electronic devices.) Totally too perfect. Now watch the video that shows the devices in action and prepare yourself for a totally “awww, love” ending. Designer: Noam Klopper ----------
Posted: 21 Sep 2010 12:03 AM PDT Clocks, since the sundial, have had that one glaring obstacle they’ve had to hop over: darkness. The sundail’s basically useless, and half the rest of the clocks in the world are pretty close to it. But then there’s the light-up clock. Since we humans set our minds on wanting to work 24 hours a day, we’ve been trying to light up the time. Let me show you the latest in attempts to do that: a clock by Saravanan Nagasundaram, an exercise in both illumination and simplicity. This time keeper goes by the name “Nocturnal Clock” and it’s made out of simple aluminum and LED lights. Plus a clock mechanism – don’t forget that. In the gallery below you’ll see the simple rules of the clock, when it’s light, when it’s dark, and when it’s fabulously stark. Designer: Saravanan Nagasundaram ----------
| Posted: 21 Sep 2010 12:02 AM PDT You’ve always wondered what would happen if someone took the whole idea of holding a candle to the limits of fine craftsmanship and heaviness. That time and place and situation are here and now and go by the name “Waingro.” This is the candlestick holder you’ve always dreamed of. Made for those with really, really expensive furniture and rooms full of fine, fine items of splendor. Waingro is a stainless steel industrial candle holder partly crafted and polished by hand. Weighing in at over 2 lbs each and straight outta Denmark. Designed to combat the idea that a candle holder isn’t an item that can be more than just a cheap, mass produced object created under who-knows-what kind of conditions. The Waingro is sustainably made to be precious and fabulous and the highest of quality for your powerful home. Now watch the video and listen to the smooth musak presentation beats.
