| You Need a Big Chest to be Superman Posted: 09 Jun 2011 08:51 AM PDT Wearing red underpants over blue tights is not going to make you Superman! You need to exercise….and maybe beef up that chest with the Elastic Exerciser! This handy elastic rubber sheet is disguised as a mousepad. When no one's looking you can do a rep or two and your secret will be safe. Same rules apply for Batman and brigade. Designers: Guanyun Wang, Chengyuan Wei, Fan Zhang & Ye Tao ---------- |
| Posted: 09 Jun 2011 08:50 AM PDT Camerang is a refined version of the balloon, stick and glider concepts of flying cameras. Infusing a sense of abandonment, the camera aims to capture pictures that are most natural. It actively takes shots as it flies through the air, while the central lens rotates automatically to fix its focus on the subject. The camera intuitively calculates the required lens angle as it flies and clicks a set of freeze frames as it orbits around the subject. Most definitely a fun way of taking pictures! | Posted: 09 Jun 2011 08:50 AM PDT The Helix-IR concept is designed by Jean HONG & Dassault Systèmes DesignStudio team. It’s a wireless headphone that looks like mechanical wizardry with all the moving parts. The central part is made from sheet aluminum, laser cut and stamped. This configuration provides a lightweight, flexible structure complimented with high end finishing. It surrounds the head like an exo-skeleton. We don’t have much information on the specs but told the performance is top-tier for the hardcore audiophile. Designer: Jean Hong ---------- |
| Bring Mount Fuji into Your Home Posted: 09 Jun 2011 08:46 AM PDT If you’ve been lucky enough to visit Japan and see the majestic mount Fuji, then you understand why designers like Yuchen Liu are inspired by it. It’s perpetually surrounded by mist and that’s when it clicked for Yuchen Liu. The Fujisan Humidifer is an homage to mountain – purifies the air and puts moisture back into it. Beautiful, honest design. Designer: Yuchen Liu ---------- |
| Posted: 09 Jun 2011 12:39 AM PDT This twist (literally) on the chair, the brainchild of designer Markus Johansson, challenges the straight, rigid, and traditional forms of the modernist aesthetic, presenting itself as a violent and chaotic swirl of solid wood frozen in time. Combining modern and age-old technique, NEST is constructed of a free form combination of round pegs that are bent and then drilled in a CNC milling machine for a precision fit. The pegs share an identical cut, making production easy and straightforward without sacrificing style. Designer: Markus Johansson ---------- |
| Posted: 09 Jun 2011 12:02 AM PDT It’s a strange thing that we’ll never fully experience what it’s like to see ourselves through someone else’s eyes. Seeing your reflection, or viewing photos of yourself is somehow different than how other people see you. Deception of Reflection by designer John Leung is a mirrored analogy of this phenomenon. The frame’s 3D honeycomb surface makes it appear as though the frame is magically reflected in an entirely different color, reminding the viewer that what is seen in the mirror is entirely subjective. | Posted: 09 Jun 2011 12:01 AM PDT For the ultra-rich, available hobbies are as limitless as their bank accounts. Designer Timon Sager envisions the future elite class shedding their riding boots and leaving the exotic car garaged for something even more exhilarating: a purely recreational private jet. The AvA 02 Serafim has a fighter jet aesthetic with a more customized look. Shown here in red, it’s a natural choice for adrenaline junkies. In the cockpit: two tandem seats, flight controls including a liquid crystal display embedded into the glass, throttle/joystick combination, rear seat display, and bucket seats. Power: 2 different jet-engines, one for VTOL and the other Supersonic Combustion Ramjet, Mach 3 – Mach 9.8 Designer: Timon Sager ---------- |
