Lighting Repercussions

Posted: 17 Jun 2011 08:58 AM PDT

Consequence creates an intimate relationship between the user, requiring the user to become conscious of the lamp's environment, it produces a unique interaction; if the lamp is ignored, a messy-waxy, inconvenient situation drips. Consequence can be used for a little over an hour without mess, guiding those using its light to spend their limited time wisely. The idea was to create a visual representation of the wasted energy that incandescent bulbs produce.

Music in a Bottle

Posted: 17 Jun 2011 08:56 AM PDT

The Genie concept distills the idea of an MP3 player back to it’s simplest function. No docking or syncing required. Instead, Genie plays music relevant to your mood. Feeling giddy? How about some pop music? Perhaps you’ve had a long day at the office and need to unwind. Genie might play a little Bach. The design itself is meant to look like a sculpture. The conical shape helps radiates sound and eliminates the need for traditional speaker grills.

This switch has a lot more to trigger than just its contents; lets just say your entire day depends on it…any guess at to what this is?

C'mon don't cheat….

It's a coffee set for people who just can’t live without their cuppa!

Lucid is a coffee set that carries the brew, sugar and cup, all in one slim casing. Java on the go is any day better than java-no-more!

Getting Nostalgic About Wind and Light

Posted: 17 Jun 2011 07:25 AM PDT

Returning to the basics of fanning a paper (for wind) or breaking twigs & rubbing them together to make light (fire), here is a project that explores the haptic sensations for these, in present times. Nostalgic Sensations comprises of a fan and a torch, the fan works by blowing into it, just like a pinwheel. And the torch works with the intuitive breaking action of a light stick, shaking it till the torch, lights up.

What I like about the project is the simple intuitive interaction between the objects and us. Super!

Dutch Design in Battery Park

Posted: 17 Jun 2011 12:49 AM PDT

Located in the heart of Manhattan’s waterfront Battery Park sits the recently completed New Amsterdam Plein & Pavilion, a $2.3 million gift from the Kingdom of the Netherlands to New York City in honor of their shared values of innovation, creativity, diversity, & progress. The structure will be a major transportation hub, serving over 150,000 visitors & residents with visitor information & locally grown food at one of Lower Manhattan’s newest & most dynamic cultural gateways.

The state of the art pavilion commemorates 4 centuries of friendship between the Kingdom & the city, serving as a reminder of their enduring past & progressive future.

The Plein & Pavilion project was conceived by the Battery Conservancy to create an extraordinary “outdoor living room” for spontaneous & scheduled activities, public markets, seating & shade. Designed by UNStudio in collaboration with Handel Architects LLP, New York serving as associate architect. The project’s landscape was conceived by Parks Dept. Landscape Designer Gail Wittwer-Laird.

Expanding Recreational Diving

Posted: 17 Jun 2011 12:05 AM PDT

This underwater system by designer Emil Orman aims to make scuba diving a safe & tangible reality for those who suffer from paraplegia. The concept was developed by working hand-in-hand with disabled divers, conducting full-scale diving exhibitions, & carrying out mock-up tests. Buoyancy and body trim can be adjusted via the chest mounted control to assist the user into a horizontal, vertical, or angular position, increasing the freedom of movement & enhancing the overall experience.

This Vacuum Sucks… in a Good Way!

Posted: 17 Jun 2011 12:01 AM PDT

I’ll be the first to admit that my cleaning lady, Claudia, is my best friend. Call me lazy, but one of the reasons is that I (& my dog) despise the cumbersome, loud, rolling vacuum that hides in my storage. Now, if vacuuming were as easy, cute, & just plain fun to use as the Magic Glove then I just might have a change of heart. This miniature sized aspirator is powered by a rechargeable battery & is able to brush & vacuum simultaneously, cleaning & dusting all while attached to your hand. Move over Claudia!
