Posted: 10 Aug 2011 08:39 AM PDT Project “Pet Stool”, just a little something from Eyal Hirsh to bring a bit more joy and playfulness to our drab and stooless lives. The stool is made out of oak wood, solid yet a warm material. (HA!) The upholstered leg penetrates the seat and just beckons to be played with. Inside that leg is a solid leg that keeps the stool stable. It’s humorous and I think quite comfortable to sit in. Not all furniture has to look like it came straight out of Dwell Design and no, that wasn’t a jab at Dwell. We love Dwell. Designer: Eyal Hirsh ---------- |
Posted: 10 Aug 2011 08:35 AM PDT As soon as this came across my email, I immediately channeled my good samaritan ego and flipped open my checkbook. Listen, you’re smart. You know some of the most recognizable animals are on the endangered species list but that knowledge probably failed to motivate any kind of action. The idea behind Endangered Door Handles are handles that look like the animals themselves – a little reminder everyday and I assume all proceeds go to conservation work should this concept ever get approved. Posted: 10 Aug 2011 01:37 AM PDT inTouch is an interactive cube with inbuilt camera, display and connectivity. More like the baby monitor, but in a grown-up version, to stay in touch with family and friends while you are away in college. The fun and playful design makes it easy to access and is quite intuitive as modular networking cubes. inTouch is a 2011 IDEA Awards entry. Designer: Shan Lin ---------- |

Posted: 10 Aug 2011 12:01 AM PDT An alternative to the traditional wooden birdhouse, this playful design by Quentin de Coster is composed of thermoformed polystyrene and aluminum, making for a durable and long-lasting home for feathered residents. The circular disk that supports the house also doubles as the perfect perch for sun bathing. Designer: Quentin de Coster ---------- |
Posted: 10 Aug 2011 12:01 AM PDT Using an unconventional balancing system in combination with a hard protective shell, the Honda Gyro² aims to target the consumer that doesn’t see the practicality or convenience of the traditional bike. This urban scooter uses two separte stabilizing technologies to balance its hard shell: Honda UX-3 software and a rotating gyrowheel. Using dual mono-swing arms the rider can steer at both the rear and front, avoiding lean at corners while maintaining balance. The pictures from rear view cameras are projected on the inside of the transparent shell and three yellow warning lights increase in intensity in their corresponding direction as objects come closer. The transparent shell can also be covered in printed vinyl, enabling not only the standard choice of colors for the body, but patterns too. Designer: Robert V Hagenström ---------- |
