Posted: 11 Aug 2011 08:56 AM PDT Inspired by scanning devices for scanning targets in sci-fi movies, the Sonar Watch has three themes – blue for sonar, green for radar, and red for a scanner interface. The time is shown as three targets which are lit up. By pressing a button, a radar/sonar/scanner animation will play. The dots represent the hour, minutes and seconds. Cool, novel design. Definitely something I could see Tokyoflash selling. Designer: Samuel Jerichow ---------- |
Helmet with Wristband Indicators… No You Cool Posted: 11 Aug 2011 08:53 AM PDT The Aura Commuter Cycle Helmet has an incorporated rear light and detachable wristband indicators. The indicators are automatically activated when the cyclist raises their arm to signal. The indicators attach to the helmet when not in use. The helmet was design to be appropriately styled to fit the urban environment, offering an alternative to race derived helmet designs. Designer: Joseph Thomas ---------- |
Posted: 11 Aug 2011 01:57 AM PDT I'm a sucker for retro cassette tape concepts and they always take me back in time. So check this Player & Tape Concept, which features a portable music player that can dock 3 USB sticks at a time. It comes with a mock USB cassette tape that can store music and can be shared with friends. Just like how you used to make mix-tapes and compile romantic love songs! Ah, those were the days… Designer: Jung Hoon Lee ---------- |
Posted: 11 Aug 2011 12:50 AM PDT The Omnifer is an innovative cover for the iPad that transforms it’s flat surface into Braille, reflecting the contents of the page you are surfing. Essentially the idea is to make the iPad accessible to the sight impaired. If supporting technology for this does come around, then I'm sure it will be quite a revolutionary concept to be commercialized. Nevertheless, when not in the Braille mode, the jacket acts as a protective gear for the iPad. Lovely! The Omnifer is a 2011 IDEA Award entry. Designer: Jayson D’Alessandro ---------- |
Posted: 11 Aug 2011 12:14 AM PDT I find it quite amusing that here we have a range of washing machines promising us features and cleaning like never before, and yet two daring designers are suggesting that we go back to the basics – hand washing. No doubt hand washed clothes have the best results, but it is quite a pain to sit crouched on the floor to do the scrubbing, even if you use a washboard. Hence the Pond is quite the apt answer to the problem. It's a protective ridged cover that fits on a sink and allows you to hand wash clothes – standing! No crouching and good enough to do small batches of laundry! Superb! Designers: Zhong-Fa Lie & Yoori Koo ---------- |
